Zerust Integrity Solutions (ZIS)

Engineered protection where corrosion hides

ZIS provides proven engineered inhibitor delivery systems for aboveground storage tanks, pipeline preservation and pipe casing protection. Some of the most expensive corrosion occurs where it cannot be seen, inside cased pipeline crossings, beneath tank floors or along pipeline segments awaiting commissioning. ZIS systems are built for exactly these conditions, installed without excavation and monitored without interrupting operations.

Zerust pipe casing VCI injection diagram

Pipeline casing protection

Cased crossings under roads and rail can develop metallic shorts that divert cathodic protection current and accelerate corrosion. ZIS provides engineered VCI gel, powder and slurry systems that are installed through existing vent pipes in accordance with NACE SP0200-2014, requiring no excavation and allowing treatment of the annulus without interrupting operations.

Zerust pipeline pigging preservation diagram

Pipeline preservation

ZIS provides engineered inhibitor delivery systems for pipeline staging, hydrotest layup and pre-commissioning preservation. These systems protect internal surfaces during idle periods without relying on dry air or nitrogen purging in suitable applications, reducing cost and simplifying operations.

Zerust storage tank chime cross section diagram

Storage tank bottom protection

Soil-side bottom corrosion is a major driver of premature tank failure. ZIS provides engineered inhibitor delivery systems through chime or underside injection points, applied in service or during outages and monitored with ER and UT probes. Field data has demonstrated up to a threefold reduction in corrosion rate compared with baseline conditions.

Solutions are aligned with API 2610, API TR 655, AMPP SP21474 and NACE SP0200-2014, and supported by PRCI testing and field data.

How It Works

What is a VCI, and why it matters

Vapor corrosion inhibitors (VCI) distribute throughout an enclosed volume, form a microscopic protective layer on metal surfaces and block moisture and contaminants from reacting with the metal. When the space is opened, the inhibitor naturally dissipates, no wipe-down, no removal step, no residue to manage before the asset goes back into service.

The protection applies itself, and it removes itself.

VCI vs SCI: two modes of protection

VCI provides non-contact protection, forming its layer inside enclosed volumes without needing to touch the metal. SCI provides contact protection, delivering inhibitor directly to the surface where continuous contact is required. Together they extend protection into voids, crevices and hard-to-access surfaces where physical access is limited.

Barrier

Blocks dirt, abrasion and corrosive gases such as SO2 and H2S from reaching the metal.

Vapor passivation

Interrupts the electrochemical reaction between anodic and cathodic points on the metal surface.

Hydrophobic layer

Stops water reaching the surface, so the electrolyte corrosion needs never forms.

Sustainability

A closed loop for VCI packaging

ZeCycle, run with recycling partner RecycleMax, takes used Zerust VCI packaging out of landfill and back into new product. Used film is sorted on-site, baled, collected, washed and reground into recycled pellets, then remanufactured into ICT 510-PCR30 VCI film.

Natur-VCI, a fully biodegradable and compostable VCI film, is also available for customers who need it.

1,000 lbs

of recycled polyethylene film offsets 1,480 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions compared to virgin LDPE.

Results From The Field

Proof, not promises

Performance data from deployed Zerust Integrity Solutions programs. Documented case studies from the global Zerust Integrity Solutions network.

Vertical sump pump, UAE

Problem: A ferrous vertical sump pump was exposed to flash corrosion during hydrotesting and wet lay-up.

Fix: ZerioGuard 5 soluble inhibitor powder dissolved into the test water, creating an alkaline environment that neutralised acidic species.

Result: Flash corrosion prevented through testing and short-term lay-up, with no additional post-hydrotest treatment.

Flange protection, Texas USA

Problem: Flange-interface corrosion was driving seized bolting, leaks and costly maintenance.

Fix: ZIF Tape, a self-fusing silicone tape with embedded inhibitors, cold-applied and spiral-wound to deliver inhibitor straight to the metal surface.

Result: Flange integrity maintained without downtime, with assets kept protected and inspectable.

Pipeline preservation before commissioning

Problem: A hydrotested pipeline sat idle before commissioning, with residual water threatening internal corrosion.

Fix: Zerion inhibitor slurry injected between two pigs and driven through with compressed air, leaving a protective film on internal surfaces.

Result: Internal surfaces protected until commissioning, with no dry air or nitrogen purging required.
